Athena Calderone has teamed up with Blackcreek Mercantile & Trading Co. to create a limited-edition large-scale butcher block. The block Athena initially designed for her home represents a merging of worlds – culinary and design – two fields that she has uniquely mastered. As cooking is part of Athena’s daily routine (she authored a James Beard Award-Winning cookbook in 2017), she was driven to turn her most functional workhorse in her kitchen into something beautiful – a union where form and function meet aesthetics.
Hand-carved from pure blond maple wood, this block is just as beautiful as it is functional. Material rich, this piece offers a solid, end-grain sugar maple cutting surface with anti-slip and non-marring rubber feet.
Designed in collaboration by Black Creek Mercantile & Trading Co. and Athena Calderone, the butcher block is made from sustainably sourced domestic hardwood and food-safe, non-toxic finishes. Made in Kingston, New York, each piece bears a natural character that will lend itself to generations of use.
Material and Finish: Bleached maple end grain, hand-rubbed non-toxic linseed oil finish. Wood is a natural material and there may be imperfections and variations in every block.
Dimensions: 15” x 20” x 2.5”
Shipping and lead time: Please note this item is handmade to order by a small team. Each block has a lead time of approximately 4-6 weeks once purchased. Our current flat rate shipping within the US is $50.
Returns: This item is final sale and non-refundable.
About Blackcreek Mercantile & Trading Co.
After years working in the furniture and interiors industry, Joshua Vogel created Blackcreek Mercantile & Trading Co. as a way to explore small-scale product design and manufacturing, and to reconnect himself. With the idea of handmade goods. All of BCM&T Co.’s products are handmade in their Kingston, New York studio. The brand strives daily to get closer in understanding the elements of their craft, not further removed. They seek to connect good ideas with great materials through simple processes that, in turn, connect their customers directly to the essence of the work.
